Success for Weston group in beat championship
The
Iveys, from Weston-super-Mare, a group who decided to "have
a go" at almost the last moment and added their names on the
final day for accepting entries, won the second heat of the West
Country beat championship at the Winter Gardens Pavillions, Weston.
Mrs. Henly, who manages the group, said afterwards: "They want to be good before they start to go anywhere and, at first they did not intend to play in the championship. However, they decided to enter on the final day.
The group, who recently backed Ricky Valance at the Webbington Country Club and are now beginning to compose their own music, have been together for about two years.
The Line-Up
The group consists of lead guitarist Desmond Henly; bass guitar Mario Ferrari; rhythm guitar Remo Ferrari; and John Watson on the drums. The group will have a professional engagement at the Pavillion on March 11, and last week’s winners the Clubmen, of Portishead, will appear again on March 4.
The groups for the third heat of the competition next Wednesday will be the Rapids (Weston) Johnny Dee and the Diatones (Bristol), and the Mustangs (Taunton).
